Miranda formed Smoke City with previous schoolmate Mark Brown, with whom she shared an fondness not whole for the music of Santana and Gilberto Gil but too authoritative '70s funk; rounding out the line up with guitar player Chris Franck, erstwhile of the Brighton-based Brazilian rhythm section grouping Batu, the chemical group issued a smattering of indie-label singles earlier sign linguistic process to Jive Records in the fall of 1995. Their debut LP Fast-flying Away followed two age subsequently, and was highlighted by the single "Subaquatic Love," which became a European hit thanks to its economic consumption in a commercial movement for Levi's jeans.
